The other day I walked up to the reservoir with the dog. On the way back, I noticed that people were ignoring the speed limit sign at the top of Sinclair Street, but slowing right down to 30 at the electronic sign just round the bend.
I find that a little disturbing. There’s a sign, telling you how fast to go, and there’s a big dial in your car telling you how fast you’re going. Speed limits may sometimes be stupid, but there’s no excuse for not obeying them. Well, plus or minus five mph anyway…
It’s the law, but more importantly, it means your driving behaviour is predictable for other road users.
The thing is, even at 30mph, you can cross Helensburgh in less than ten minutes. So what’s the point of speeding?
